Macau gross gaming revenue reached MOP6.3bn ($785.2m) in January, falling 20.9 per cent year-on-year from 2021, according to figures from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

The figure was down 74.6 per cent from the GGR achieved in January 2019 and down 71.3 per cent from January 2020.

Bernstein last week revised down its estimates for January GGR due to more stringent border testing requirements, which included a negative PCR within 48 hours of travel, down from seven days prior.

Bernstein expects February GGR to be further troubled due to tighter travel restrictions.

According to the Public Security Police, there were around 9,439 visitor arrivals recorded on Tuesday, the first day of Chinese New Year as of 9pm.
