Macau casinos to stay open

Macau’s now-reopened casinos will remain open and there are no plans for further temporary closures, the region’s secretary for economy and finance, Lei Wai Nong, has announced.

The territory, which closed its casinos on February 5, had a record low footfall because of restrictions on border-crossing from the neighbouring Chinese province of Guangdong.

Around 58,000 people are employed in the Macau casino industry, said Nong, and it is important to keep the casinos open in order to keep them in work.
