The Category 4 Casino Auction Award in Pennsylvania, US, has been won by Ira Lubert, it was announced yesterday.

It means that Lubert, licensed as an owner with Holdings Acquisition, the operator of the Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, can select a location for the new casino licence. At the auction, Lubert bid $10,000,101 for the right to place a casino within a 15-mile radius of Unionville Borough in the state’s Centre County.

The state was auctioning the licence previously applied for by Mount Airy Casino Resorts but which was subsequently denied. Four other licences that were awarded in 2018 are currently under construction.

The licence permits the holder to operate between 300 and 750 slots and can seek permission to operate up to 30 table games for an additional fee of $2.5m with the ability to add on 10 more after the first year.
