Leading British metaverse games developer and publisher Lockwood Publishing, developers and creators of mobile metaverse Avakin Life, has announced the opening of a new office in Cambridge.

The move adds Cambridge to its growing roster of development, publishing and operational hubs, joining Nottingham, Newcastle, Lisbon, Vilnius and Ho Chi Minh City. With around 200 people now employed across its locations, Lockwood is well set to meet shifting market trends and global recruitment challenges as the company enhances its capabilities for current and future projects.

Peter Lovell, Strategic Director of Talent Acquisition, said: “Our positioning represents a commitment to having a presence in key areas where we can access great mobile development talent. In addition, the benefit of creating specialised hubs in multiple locations are myriad for our company culture and direction. We recognise that diversity of location and workforces drawn from top international talent leads to greater learning, better ideas and market understanding, and contributes to stronger company culture.”

Lockwood also enjoys a flexible working ethos, designed to allow wider talent searches for critical hires beyond existing hubs, and to pinpoint further opportunities for hub growth. As well as staff in hub locations, over the last two years Lockwood has attracted remote-working talent from Germany, Spain, Ireland, France, Finland and Netherlands.

In addition, Lockwood’s Lisbon studio – currently home to 40 staff – is expanding. Ricardo Flores, Lisbon Studio head, said: “Lisbon’s growing importance to Lockwood as a key development hub recognises the incredible development eco-system in Portugal, and its place as an up-and-coming talent goldmine. It’s also ideally located for access to talent within the wider European Union, both for people who want to relocate to Lisbon and for remote workers.”
