Legislators consider Virginia casino

In the US, state legislators may consider a northern Virginia casino in a revived effort to legalise casinos in five cities.

The proposed bill would require local referendum approval for casinos in Bristol, Danville and Portsmouth, as well as Pamunkey Indian casinos in Norfolk and Richmond. It would also allow sports betting and potentially igaming.

A northern Virginia location would generate an additional $155m per year in taxes according to a legislative study. However, Colonial Downs south of Richmond opposes that option saying a northern Virginia casino would cut its historical horse racing machine revenue by 45 per cent.
