It will be May before Las Vegas’ casinos can be reopened, Governor Steve Sisolak has announced.

He has issued a directive this week extending the closure of the city’s casinos until at least April 30. The original directive sought to close them until April 15. It also covered non-essential businesses and schools.

More than 200,000 casino workers have been laid off as a result of the closure. US-wide curtailing of the industry has seen nearly 1,000 casinos, including tribal locations, close across 40 states.
