What were potential stumbling blocks ahead of casinos opening in Japan have been removed – at least in Osaka and Nagasaki.
Fantini’s Gaming Report said that the prefectural assembly in Osaka has rejected a proposal by an anti-casino group calling for a local referendum on the subject. The group had collected 190,000 signatures to demand the vote.
MGM Resorts is proposing to join with Orix in a US$9.1bn casino resort in Osaka (pictured) that would open in 2029.
At the same time a prefectural audit committee in Nagasaki has decided that there was nothing untoward in the payment of an $831,000 fee for consultancy work in support of the casino resort there.
Another anti-casino group had demanded disclosure of the fund-raising plans of would-be operator Casinos Austria.
