Despite over four months of inactivity, France’s Groupe Partouche is confident that stability has been achieved in the gaming industry.

The company’s fourth quarter results and for the full fiscal year to October suggests a turnaround in the industry’s fortunes, said Partouche.

The fourth quarter of 2020 had been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting closure of all French casinos throughout October of that year and neighbouring Switzerland saw the Crans-Montana along with Belgium’s Ostend venues closing.

France introduced the health pass for casinos with limited numbers of guests, opening up fully early in August and in Switzerland a similar pass was introduced in September.

As a result, in France the fourth quarter GGR was up 7.2 per cent, but in Belgium the casino with online gaming and sportsbook fell 51 per cent. Overall the quarter saw NGR falling by only five per cent.

For the full year, with the casinos closed for more than six months, compared with three months in the previous year, GGR was down 33.4 per cent, but the group performed better than the French casinos where the fall was 41 per cent. NGR reached €255.7m, down 25.6 per cent.
