Research into the awarding of potential casino licences in New York by Politico shows that Genting Group is a frontrunner so far.

As reported by Asia Gaming Brief, Politico’s findings revealed that Genting has spent US$2.7m on lobbying firms.

The group is aiming to expand its reach in New York, where it operates its Resorts World facility at the Aqueduct Race Track in Queens.

The research also suggests that MGM Resorts, which has properties across the US and in Asia, is another strong candidate to be awarded a New York licence.

Overall, Politico has revealed that lobbying firms have made $7.2m over the past 14 months as they aim to influence those making the final decision over adding casino experiences in the city.

Another company going after a New York licence is Caesars, which has partnered with Jay-Z and real estate firm SL Green.
