Gauteng Gambling Board under temporary control

Advocate Fana Nalane has been appointed administrator of the Gauteng Gambling Board in South Africa.

The appointment comes following the resignation of former board members and consequently there was an inability to form a quorum. It was decided to name an administrator to carry out the functions of the board to ensure that corporate governance is maintained pending the appointment of a new board.

Despite the disruption created by the Covid-19 pandemic, the board had managed to raise R800m (€46.9m) in gambling taxes in the past year for the province, reported MEC (Member of the Executive Council) Parks Tau.

Tau said that the temporary appointment of Nalane would last six months until a new board is appointed.
