The Gauselmann Group has won the contest for four licences to run casinos in North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany.


The new operator of the four WestSpiel casinos already has 28 locations in Germany and on cruise ships. It has tendered in competition with other operators to take over the WestSpeil licences in Aachen, Bad Oeynhausen, Dortmund-Hohensyburg and Duisburg, with the possibility of opening two more in the state.

Said Paul Gauselmann, founder of the company: “We are delighted with this important new milestone in the 60-year history of our company and proud that this is in our home state. This is the most populous federation state, with 18 million people.”

David Schnabel (pictured), managing director of Merkur Spielbanken, the Gauselmann group casino division, said: “We are now about to continue the success story of the casinos in North-Rhine Westphalis, together with the WestSpiel Group, and carry the tradition forward.
