A new casino is to be opened by the Gauselmann Group at Monheim am Rhein in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The company recently acquired the WestSpiel Group’s operation in the state, covering Aachen, Bad Oeynhausen, Dortmund-Hohensburg and Duisburg and with it two new licences. The coming opening in Monheim is one of them.

Dieter Kuhlmann, CEO of the Gauselmann gaming operations, said: “The Monheim am Rhein location is located at the intersection of the traffic routes between the large metropolitan areas of Cologne and Düsseldorf.”

Monheim am Rhein will have around 4,300sq.m of space in the new casino when it opens at the end of next year. Both slots and table games will be available in a building that already houses a Merkur Casino arcade in its basement.

Kuhlmann made the point that the arcade will remain open. “We have already come to the conclusion at other locations that arcades and casinos are not in direct competition with one another.”
