Gambling Commission publishes new operator data

The Gambling Commission has released three years’ worth of data showing gambling behaviours in Great Britain.

Online and in-person licensed betting operators shared their information from March 2020 to March 2023 inclusive, allowing the Gambling Commission to draw patterns from the comparative data.

The Gambling Commission, however, stressed that it does not include data from all operators and may include free bets and bonuses, and so comparison should not be made with the industry statistics dataset.

Over financial Q4 2022-23, ending March 2023, the gross gambling yield was £1.3bn, a five per cent increase on the same quarter the previous year.

The overall number of total bets and/or spins increased nine per cent year-on-year, and the average monthly active accounts was also up 11 per cent.

With the reporting period covering Cheltenham festival, real event betting gross gambling yield was up 13 per cent year-on-year to £555m, with total bets and actives also increasing 19 per cent and 9 per cent respectively for the vertical.

Online slot sessions lasting more than one hour was up to 8.8m, an increase of 10 per cent year-on-year. The average session length stayed at 17 minutes for the fourth quarter in a row, with roughly 6.4 per cent of all session lasting longer than an hour.
