Crown casino pays back tax

Home » Crown casino pays back tax

The misery for the Crown group of Australian casinos continues, with the Victorian Royal Commission examining potential tax underpayments by the Melbourne casino.

Crown has decided to make a payment to the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation representing an underpayment of casino tax by Crown Melbourne of A$37m (€23m) over the period starting with the 2012 financial year up to the present.

The underpayment was an incorrect deduction of some bonus rewards provided to patrons in connection with play on the casino’s slots. Crown had to pay penalty interest on any underpayment and that turned out to be A$24m (€14.9m).
