Cordish may develop new Virginia casino

The new casino to be built in Petersburg, Virginia, US, will be developed by The Cordish Companies, it was decided by the city council on Tuesday evening.

The $1.4bn project will be gradually developed over the next 15 years in three phases, using 80 acres of land.

Now the project to bring casino gambling to the city has to be approved by Petersburg’s general assembly under state law, says the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Another potential stumbling-block is the possibility that Richmond may approve a proposed casino resort less than 25 miles away that its voters rejected in 2021. If that was to happen, it would prevent the Petersburg project from happening, said city authorities.
