Colorado gaming regulators have approved 32 more licensing for the sports betting industry of the state. In the approvals this time around, six online operators and eight casinos were in the mix. Retail sportsbooks, commercial casinos, and online operators all want in on the new industry.

Sports Betting in Colorado:

So far, sports betting is supposed to start on May 1st. However, it could be pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Limited Gaming Control Commission has not provided any details as to if the date will change.

The commission is scheduled to meet again on April 16th, which would be the last time the group meets before the May 1st set starting date. According to the Director of the Division of Gaming, Dan Hartman, discussions of the launch would take place.

During the most recent approvals, several big-name companies were given temporary online sports betting licenses in Colorado. The brands include Penn Sports Interactive, William Hill, Rush Street Interactive and Roar Digital.

According to Roar Digital, they will have their BetMGM app ready to go live based on the regulator’s timeline. Roar was also given approval for temporary licensing for land-based sports betting. William Hill was approved for the Lady Luck and Isle of Capri casinos.

Moving Forward:

If for some reason the sports betting launch date is not moved, the only option that would be in operation would be mobile and online services. For now, gaming venues are shut down due to the outbreak. The federal government is recommending social distancing through April 30th with a reevaluation by that date.
