US operator Churchill Downshas announced the acquisition of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment’s assets in Virginia and New York and its operations in Sioux City Casino.


The Kentucky Derby owner and gaming machine operator is paying $2.4bn for the business that will help it expand its operation.

The deal includes the Colonial Downs Racetrack in New Kent, Virginia, and the Rosie’s Gaming Emporium chain in Collinsville, Dumfries, Hampton, New Kent, Richmond and Vinton with 2,700 historical racing machines.

Also in the deal is the Del Lago Resort and Casino in Waterloo, New York, a 96,000sq.ft casino with 1,700 slots, 80 tables, an hotel, nine restaurants and bars. It also has a sportsbook and entertainment venue plus an outdoor event venue.

Finally, there is the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Sioux City, Iowa, with 639 slots, 20 tables, an hotel and live entertainment plus a sportsbook. The Sioux City venue will be sold to a third party as part of the deal with Churchill Downs leasing it back.
