Chicago ready for casino applications

Early in April the US city of Chicago expects to issue its request for proposal for the introduction of a world-class casino resort in the city.

The only gaming licence will introduce casino gaming to the heart of the city for the first time. The third largest metropolitan area in the US and largest in the Midwest, it will cover 9.5 million people.

Its domestic and international air travel connections and its three million working-age adults within a 50-minute commute to the downtown area all add up to an attractive package in the race to win the licence.

Said Mayor Lori Lightfoot: “Chicago is ready to become the home of a major casino resort that will enhance our thriving entertainment and cultural scene.

“We will shortly go into discussions with companies and partners who will help us develop the premier gaming and entertainment destination in our city and drive our economy in a transparent and equitable way.”

To make the offer attractive, the Illinois legislature last year passed an act that will provide a significantly lower tax rate for the casino owner.
