The government of Canberra in Australia is prepared to buy slot machines from restaurants and clubs for A$15,000 (€8,700) each as long as the proceeds go towards retaining staff during the coronavirus pandemic.

There is a cap on the numbers purchased at 250 slots and at the same time the government is also prepared to waive gaming machine tax for the first quarter of this year.
