California closer to sports betting

Home » California closer to sports betting

The US state of California might be a step closer to sports betting, but not in a way that would unlock the potential of the nation’s most populous state.

The California Nations Indian Association has compiled 1.4 million signatures for a 2022 referendum to permit sports betting, but it would be limited to on-premise betting at tribal casinos and racetracks. It would also allow tribal casinos to offer craps and roulette.

Now signatures must be authenticated and the petition certified, a process expected to take until March. The petition requires 997,139 signatures. A referendum can be held earlier if California decides to hold a special election.
