A UK High Court judge this week criticised bookmaker Paddy Power for not being interested in a gambler’s inability to sustain his losses.

Mr Justice Griffiths said that Paddy Power knew that businessman Tony Parente was behaving like a problem gambler from its own monitoring, but “did not really care,” reports the Daily Telegraph.

His remarks came in a court action in which Paddy Power was sued by another businessman who had loaned money to Parente and who wished to recover it from the bookmaker.

Justice Griffiths dismissed the claim by Amarjeet Dhir and ruled in favour of Paddy Power. But he said that the bookmaker knew that  Parente’s losses were unsustainable.
