Around the world, officials are announcing closings of businesses due to the coronavirus outbreak. This week, Australia has now decided to shut down casinos, restaurants, pubs, and other venues due to the public not practicing social distancing, a method that could help to stop the virus from spreading. Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on Sunday night that several types of venues will close by mid-day on Monday and more restrictions will follow on gatherings as social distancing is being ignored.

Several Closings:

Several types of businesses will be closing due to the new order. Clubs, pubs, casinos, churches, gyms, cinemas and nightclubs are all on the closure list. Restaurants and cafes will not be fully closed, but will only be offering food on a takeout basis. Crown Resorts casinos along with other venues will be shutting down due to this order.

According to the report…

PM, Scott Morrison, stated that the nation will be facing more widespread restrictions in the future on social gathering size because citizens are not practicing social distancing correctly. After meeting with the National Cabinet, Morrison stated that significant measures will be put in place for the long-term and reviews would take place on a monthly basis as to what to do next.

Early on, action was taken by Australia casinos in an effort to stop the spread of the virus, but ideally, it was not enough. Casinos were lowering the number of players at table games as well as reducing the number of people allowed at their food and beverage outlets. Stricter cleaning measures were also in place along with using hand sanitizer.

USA Closures:

Australia’s closures come just days after casinos in the US began closing their doors. Last week, Governor Steve Sisolak of Nevada ordered an immediate shutdown of every commercial casino in the state, which reportedly put 200,000 people out of work. Other states also initiated a casino closure early on, including Illinois. Boyd Gaming, an operator in several states, decided to shut down their venues, including Valley Forge Casino in Pennsylvania.

The coronavirus has affected several industries, including the gambling sector, in the United States. The federal government is reportedly working on a package that will help the many people who are out of work as nonessential businesses are shut down in an effort to stem the spreading of the virus.
