Casino opponents in Japan are to submit legislation to repeal the country’s casino law and put the issue of casino development to referendum.
Public opinion polls have shown that the majority of Japanese people oppose the introduction of casinos. Opponents are now latching on to the recent scandal in which Chinese lottery company 500.com has been accused of bribing six legislators in an effort to get into the casino industry.
No casino licences have been issued, but three are authorised and cities such as Osaka and Nagasaki have started the process of selecting preferred casino operators.
