Just hours before Star Entertainment’s acting CEO was due to give evidence to the ongoing inquiry into money laundering at the Sydney, Australia, casino, he has stepped down.

John O’Neill (pictured) is the latest in a string of CEOs at the troubled venue during the public inquiry and he was due to appear at the proceedings today (Monday).

The Star board has appointed another acting chairman to replace him in Ben Heap, one of the directors. Geoff Hogg will act as CEO from next month.

He was due to be grilled on the activities of the company at the continuing inquiry by New South Wales’ Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority. At stake is Star’s suitability to operate the casino.

The company has been beleaguered by scandals involving allegations of money laundering.
