In the United States and the controversial 5Dimes gambling brand has announced the signing of a settlement with federal authorities that could soon allow it to enter the country’s legitimate online sportsbetting market.

The Costa Rica-based entity used an official Wednesday press release to detail that the agreement with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has seen it identify and forfeit criminal assets valued at around $46 million without having to disclose any information related to its many customers.

American aim:

5Dimes declared that this arrangement will also allow it to enter the United States’ regulated online gaming industry ‘free and clear of any restrictions on the use or transfer of its assets and in full compliance with [the] law’ and that is has already constituted the new 5D Americas LLC corporate entity in Delaware for just this particular purpose.

Contentious concern:

Established and run offshore by West Virginia native Sean ‘5Dimes Tony’ Creighton, 5Dimes had offered sportsbetting aficionados in the United States the ability to place allegedly illicit online wagers covering a range of markets. However, the entrepreneur was killed in September of 2018 as part of a botched kidnap attempt in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose with his widow, Laura Varela, later assuming control over his corporate assets.

Spousal successor:

The 5Dimes brand used its press release to explain that Creighton’s death subsequently prompted Costa Rican native Varela to contact federal authorities in order to discuss the possibility of resolving any outstanding criminal allegations. The service pronounced that this move led to the settlement and will permit its new boss to ‘explore future options including but not limited to re-constituting the 5Dimes brand to be licensed to conduct legal and regulated gaming activities in the United States and internationally.’

Read a statement from Varela…

“It has been a very difficult two years for me and my family but today marks a pivotal turning point and a fresh start for me and the 5Dimes brand as well as a milestone for the legalization of sports gaming in the United States. My husband’s death was tragic but he loved 5Dimes and all of its loyal customers. Now his spirit will be able to live on as the 5Dimes brand begins this new chapter.”
